DUCATI’S LIGHTWEIGHT MONSTER 1100 ARRIVES

Chevy tahoe grille.

DUCATI’S new pared-down Monster 1100 has been revealed, a bike the Italians say underlines their ‘less-is-more’ philosophy.

The ultra-lightweight naked bike tips the scales at just 169kg – the sport S-version at just 168kg – making it the lightest model in its class.

The new large-capacity Monster follows the styling cues of the 696 released last year but has an 1100cc motor producing 95bhp at 7,500rpm.

The flagship super-naked gets top-spec 43mm titanium nitride coated Öhlins forks and carbon fibre cam-belt covers – both of which reduce the weight by a kilogram. The sports version receives gold-coloured five-spoke wheels to set it apart.

No prices have yet been confirmed and the bikes will be in Ducati dealers next spring.

Toyota’s New Plug-In Prius, 1/X Hybrids Shown

Chevy Tahoe Vertical Doors   One of the major sponsors of this year’s Wired NextFest at Millennium Park in Chicago (alongside Xerox and Citi), Toyota had plenty to show off. A large portion of the show’s rear floor was devoted to a fleet of concept vehicles focused on, like much of the automobile industry these days, fuel economy and sustainability. ADVERTISEMENT

The latest Prius concept, the Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle, is designed to stay in electric mode longer than its predecessors. The car can also be charged using a standard household three pronged outlet. According to Toyota, the latest rev of the company’s popular green Prius line is due out in 2011.

Also on the four wheel side of the equation is the Toyota 1/X. This vehicle has the same interior space as the Prius, but weighs in two-third lighter, coming in under 1,000 pounds. That ultra-light weight lets the 1/X offer twice the fuel efficiency. The car is designed with rigid carbon fiber, which is reinforced by a plastic frame. 4. Chevy Tahoe Vertical Doors
